Minister’s Message 29th September 2019

Cheating All Blacks!

The All Blacks win last week against the Spring Boks in Japan has been muddied by the claims of cheating.

Video footage has been blasted around social media and on mainstream news websites with commentators calling it one way or the other.

I value my life so I’m not about to say if I think the claims are true or not, but while reflecting on the debate I was reminded of something Jesus said.

In Mark 8:36 Jesus said “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”

You don’t have to look too hard in the sporting, business, and banking worlds to see those who have lost their souls in the quest to be the best, to gain the whole world, if you will.

It’s not that we as Christians shouldn’t strive to be the best, or achieve what we feel called to achieve in life. We just have to be careful in whatever we do that we are putting God first and not compromising our relationship with him for some earthly gain.

Did the All Blacks cheat? They are all a bunch of sinners just like us, so I’m sure they have at some time or another. Consider though, what the things you want to achieve in life or feel passionate about, are you willing to compromise your relationship with God to achieve them?

In Christ
