"Standing in the gap" of overseas Mission Outreach
The GAP group, are those within our Church who have a vital interest in the many and varied activities overseas missions. PEPC has had this type of "mission" interest for a long time, though only recently has it been known as "GAP".
Back in 1963, Ted spoke to a group of ladies (probably then known as PWMU, or Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union) in the room now used for the crèche, so this mission of the church has been on the go from the beginning.
Later, the group was known as "APW" (Association of Presbyterian Women) and maintained the solid interest in many individuals and missions for a number of years.
For a short time, the same mission interest was maintained by a group known as
"The Mission Fellowship Group".
Following MAP, (Mission Action Planning) "GAP" was developed, drawing heavily on those who attended the above group. With two changes of times and format, this group has been maintaining the overseas mission interest in people, places and programmes.
"GAP" has been given the privilege and heavy responsibility of distributing the 5 per cent of the regular offering that is known as the "Ends of the Earth" funds.
Quite a high proportion of this is used in the regular support of those missionaries well known to many of us, as well as giving a donation to each speaker, irrespective of the number of people at the meeting.
This leaves sufficient (together with the GAP regular's free-will offerings) to be able to help various emergency situations.
GAP is normally held each second Sunday shortly after our morning service, and we'd love to have you join with us.
